What is "U" value?

Thermal transmittance, called U-value, is the amount of thermal energy, measured in W (Watts) flowing through one m² (square meter) of a building component like a window, door, wall, or other part of the building structure if the temperature difference between both sides of the component amounts to 1 K (Kelvin), The unit of measurement is W/m²K. The better-insulating a component is, the lower the U-value will be.

A window having a U-value of 0.8 W/m²K instead of 1.4 W/m²K will save 43% of energy lost through the window.

A low U-value does also maintain higher surface temperatures at the surface of a window, providing a cosier thermal atmosphere in a room because the heat transfer between the human body and the surface of the window as result of thermal radiation is reduced.

If no radiators are situated under the window, better insulating windows, having optimal U-values, help reducing cold air at the floor of a room, making it less uncomfortable.

Inliten has been designed to except both 28mm double or 40mm triple glazing which paired with our multi chambered system enables Camden to offer a range of  whole window U value options to as low as 0.8 w/m2K
